Members who wish to test their abilities against UK and International photographers can enter a variety of competitions.
Some organisations allow participants to be recognised for the numbers of acceptances achieved in their exhibitions.
The British Photographic Exhibitions organisation (BPE) operates a Crown Awards system whereby 25 acceptances are recognised by the award of the letters BPE 1*, 50 acceptances by BPE 2* and 100 acceptances by BPE3*. There are several higher awards as well.
The International Federation of Photographic Art (FIAP) awards require a certain number of acceptances to be achieved, but also has extra criteria relating to the number of exhibitions, the country of the exhibitions and the number of separate images accepted. The basic award is Artiste Federation International de l'Art Photographique (AFIAP) and requires 50 acceptances whilst the level of 'Excellence' (EFIAP) requires 150 acceptances. There is a number of higher awards as well.
The Royal Photographic Society has a variety of competitions open to its members.
The Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) and its affiliate the Southern Photographic Federation have a number of club compeitions where individual awards can also be made.
