The purpose of our site is to inform the public of our activities and history, to advise members of forthcoming events and hopefully to persuade new members to join us .
Spectrum was founded in Guernsey in 1957 and its aim was to promote colour slide photography.
In 2007, the club celebrated its first 50 years with a gala dinner at the Old Government House Hotel. It is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB) and the Southern Photographic Federation (SPF)
Club members have had many successes over the years and a number of present members hold Royal Photographic Society distinctions with LRPS, ARPS, and FRPS awards. Other members’ awards include EFIAP, AFIAP, DPAGB, APAGB, BPE* and PSA*.
For 18 years, Spectrum held an International Exhibition which, in its time was the largest in the British Isles, attracting as it did over 7,500 entries from more than 50 different countries. Unfortunately the exhibition had to close a few years ago.
Despite its historical roots the club now caters for digital images, prints and slides.
The club programme has varied events, catering for all standards and many interests. We have members who travel the world in search of their favourite subject and others who stay closer to home.
Whatever the choice, the competitions are keenly fought. These friendly competitions help to improve members' photography and as a consequence Spectrum has a high reputation throughout Great Britain and internationally on the competition circuit. Members frequently gain acceptances and win prizes around the world.
With such a pool of talent in the club and with members' willingness to share knowledge, less experienced members are in an environment where their standard of photography can progress rapidly.
New members are most welcome -whatever their level of experience.
Why not come along and see what we do without commitment or charge ?
